Essex County Council received a ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted in 2014 and is now using Corius, the business analysis and reporting tool, to support the delivery of best practice and continuous improvement.
Corius has helped to establish new ways of interpreting and predicting trends by providing insightful and timely information to deliver a clear view of what is happening across the Council’s services. This simple yet powerful tool has allowed the organisation intelligence team to build and manage reports, maximising data potential to inform and improve operational and strategic decision making.
Big data, big challenge
From 2008-2010 children and families social work in Essex was rated as inadequate for safeguarding in the Joint Area Review and then by Ofsted. Essex County Council’s social care team was capturing and recording large amounts of data. The challenge was how this could be used to support key decision making to improve outcomes for service users. Harnessing and analysing data was complicated and often inconsistent and these challenges made it difficult for staff to track progress and identify trends in individual and group cases. Essex also needed to review the prioritisation, focus and resourcing requirements to meet growing case loads.
