Servelec, the leading provider of health, social care and education software, showed their support to children’s social care services in Barnsley by taking part in this year’s Children in Care and Care Leavers Celebration event which took place on 16 November 2016.
Promoting young people’s increased involvement and participation has been a key focus for children’s services at Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council. Children in Care are children and young people, aged from birth to 18 years who cannot safely remain with their family and are cared for by the Council until they are 21, or 25 if in full time education. The celebration event recognises personal achievement and also helps to raise young people’s aspirations.
There are three categories of nomination:- Personal Achievement; Education, Training Employment & Apprenticeships and Sports & Performing Arts, plus Group nominations. This year, the event attracted 261 nominations for 178 young people from workers, foster carers, residential staff, and independent reviewing officers, who are asked to nominate in writing why the young person was being nominated. The winners were announced at the celebration event and presented with a certificate of achievement from the Executive Director of People, Rachel Dickinson.
Pete Howell, Strategy and Service Manager, Children in Care at Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, said:
“On behalf of Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, we would like to thank Servelec for supporting the Barnsley Children in Care and Care Leavers Celebration event. We would also like to thank them for their continuing services and support to children’s social care in Barnsley which have a real impact on the young people for whom we are Corporate Parents.
This year’s event was given a particularly high profile by the attendance of the Mayor of Barnsley who responded to the requests from the young people to wear her ceremonial robe for the event. We are thrilled the event was a great success and enjoyed by all who took part.’’
