Servelec Controls has successfully completed the live upgrade from a Wormald 2003B fire and gas detection and control system to the SCAME Sistemi S81-HS range of fire and gas equipment. This demonstrates the third successful offshore platform upgrade from Wormald to SCAME equipment with several further projects planned.
Servelec’s client customer is one of the leading exploration and production companies on the UK Continental Shelf whose main drivers for the upgrade were to install a more cost effective and reliable system that would minimise downtime on the normally unmanned installation (NUI). Servelec’s innovative approach reduced the previous offshore engineering time by more than 40 man-days and resulted in a successful live transfer with zero platform downtime. This reduced the overall CAPEX on the project and prevented any loss of revenue during the transfer period.
Following successful commissioning of the new system, Project Manager Kevin Hilton said: “Servelec has worked with our customer for over 13 years and during this period they have become one of the largest owner/operators of oil and gas assets in the UK. We work closely with them on a daily basis to offset the challenges that naturally come with operating and maintaining a high number of ageing brownfield assets.
“In this instance the SCAME Sistemi S81-HS was a perfect fit for replacing the Wormald fire and gas equipment, offering great scalability, flexibility and cost efficiency. Brownfield upgrades present unique challenges and over the last 40 years, Servelec has developed many innovative solutions and project implementation initiatives; valuable experience which our engineers were able to take into this complex project.”
Servelec Controls has extensive experience in the field of safety system upgrades and regularly update the solutions to improve functionality and increase return on investment while reducing installation times. After an extensive investigatory and trial period Servelec was delighted to become an approved engineering partner for SCAME Sistemi in early 2016. The oil and gas industry in the UK continues to face challenging conditions and so it remains essential that Servelec develops cost-effective solutions for its customers. In the S81-HS Servelec has identified a powerful, expandable and cost effective SIL-rated solution for safety system upgrades.
